 Desert Hearts Springs Festival 2015
A gathering of unique souls through 72 hours of music, creativity, expression and unity. Art took so many forms, from the beautiful and technical skill of fire dancing, one intimate stage of music that reverberated through bodies of display of individual freedom to dance to a rhythm of connected randomness, to the unique burner style apparel where tribalistic face painting and feathers and fur swam through a sea of color... to the 50 plus visual artists expressing their life journey and exploration onto a brush and canvas.  And with a twist of fate...  I was so lucky to be chosen to be able to share my art and expression to this gathering of like minded creative freedomists.  To be able to connect with other amazing established artists, and to be in such close proximity where being polite with strangers, showing love and compassion to them just feels like the right and natural way that humans should be interacting and existing with each other. "A Twist of Fate" so to call my piece was well titled for such a fitting gathering.  Until we meet on the dance floor, next to a fire pit, i'll never desert my heart for anything else than to be free to express and love.

This new age of urban contemporary art is merging with the street art scene where collectors scramble to get a piece of this movement.  Traditional canvas artists have been taking their reputable style to the streets with huge wall murals that decorate city buildings, businesses and even homes.  It has been sometime that I have been wanting to see my style fabricate with a huge chunk of drywall.
Questions I had to ask myself, can these hands that traditionally work with a pencil and brush, really be able to handle and control a spray can? How big can I actually go without my subjects looking distorted? Am I tall enough for this sh$t? I will let you be the judge.

The guys at CLOUD CITI vape shop needed something about clouds and Vegas. Giving me creative freedom was a very good choice. So I gave them a greyscale piece with fluffy soft clouds and girl figure contrasted with a textured curvy road that leads to a suspended silhouette of a few Vegas Iconic buildings. Painting buildings on a building. This was my second mural ever done.
Space Twenty Three gallery sits at the end of the shopping district of Melrose. I was invited out to do an event called Fame Fest... where a few of my canvas pieces temporarily reside. Along side of the gallery is an alley consumed with murals.  Which without hesitation, jumped on the opportunity.  I decided to use some soft pastel colors and textured the subject with my black line style to balance it all out.
"Painting with cans to me is similar to sketching with a pen. I can't relate it to a brush since brush strokes feel different in movement and fluidity. But pen and cans feel like the same style of movements, more like drawing rather than painting."

Downtown Las Vegas, there is an area known as 18b that is well known to artists. It is home to a maze of complex buildings and studios that run alive with colorful murals from local to non local wall artists expressing their style and skill. Kevin the owner of the complex says he has been allowing artists, with permission, to paint on his walls for years.  Alexander Sky from 3baadsheep and jef logan bring forth a storm to reveal a new season for this wall that faces the south side of the Arts Factory.

"I decide to bring a chaotic storm like theme and background, contrasted with the gentle appeal from a soft neutral subject. We both decided the ground could use an uplift so we both extended our figures to stretch across the floor.  The story behind my message is this. I had a recent canvas piece called "Caught in a Brainstorm" (Somewhat similar to this mural's theme) in a gallery during a First Friday festival. Someone decided to grab the piece from the wall and walk out. Stolen. I was a little upset. But also glad I had sold an original that same day.  So instead of being bitter and resentful, I decided I would recreate the original stolen piece and do it even better. It would be funny for someone to actually rip the walls apart to this house and take it home with them. I'd sure like to see that added to their collection. lol"

DAX gallery opening

November brought the birth of a long needed urban contemporary art gallery to the modern uplscale city of Costa Mesa, California, DAX GALLERY. To bring this gallery to life... a very sick line up of artists stapled the walls. I had the honor to be a part of this opening along side with artists that have been in the game for awhile and that I have been looking up to for some time.  It was incredible to see so much talent in one room.  Live music filled the space, free drinks by beautiful bartenders, and they even gave out free Zippo lighters as gifts. A few of my pieces still remain in their vault for later consumption. >)

pardon me while i stand in front of my pieces
i wasnt really quite finished with this one so i inked some lines in... but not before I get caught on camera
Emil Olsson - these pieces were large and incredible

Greg Auerbach had this piece with bullet shells enclosed in the casing. Brilliant!

Big Big fan of Richard J Oliver. I enjoy his balance between soft lighting tones and childlike figures placed against a more rigid and sometimes grim background and theme. He plays on the dance between dualistic nature. He is an artist to be truly admired.

Above: Nick Flatt. One would assume these were huge photos from a far... As you get a bit closer you realize that they're paintings.  You get a few inches away and your jaw drops to see how he actually painted this. The stippling technique where one uses small dots to define shades and tones. Remarkable. And very energetic fun person to be around as well.

Peter Gronquist's sculptures had to humbly be placed in the middle of the scene. There was no way you couldn't look at these terrific modified treats of taxidermy.

Haydee Reveles posts up by her exquisite piece. I remember the first exchange of emails when she was just starting. Incredible where positive feedback, support and dedication can get you to.

Risk - can't believe his awesome sculpture right before my eyes. I touched it.

Huge in the scene artist, David Flores finished this insane mural on the side of the gallery building before the grand opening. Caught an off picture of him being interviewed.

Please visit the DAX GALLERY WEBSITE to see more amazing artists that showed.

Downtown Las Vegas gets a color face lift

the LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL festival brought an amazing line up of music to the city and left a colorful landmark when it left. It's pretty awesome to see some around the world visual artitsts make a mark on the city that never sleeps... and when passing through downtown Las Vegas, the art never falls asleep on the buildings that rise from this area.  I love that art towers and crawls across my very own backyard and definitely a sight to see if you're ever in the city. - jef

Beyond Eden: Heavy line up in this show all under one roof

I had the amazing chance to head to Hollywood, CA to view some of the biggest names in the current contemporary art scene to a show called Beyond Eden. The galleries incorporated in this huge venue included C.A.V.E. GallerySpoke artCopro Gallery, and a heavy hitter Thinkspace. All under the huge roof of the LA Municipal Art Gallery. There were just too many big names to list all. One person though in particular I had the chance to kindly interupt during his live art installation is John Park.  I have been following his work for sometime and he has currently brought his style into sculpting his famous gorillas out of cardboard.  Such a big fan of his that I gave him an original sketch of mine. but here are some photos of the show.
