the PROGRESS

EVENTS

Summer 2013 brought me to a 9 year running festival in Southern California known as Lightning in a Bottle.  As an invited guest to paint live, I was blown away by the like minded creative individuals that made this an experience of a lifetime. By night I enjoyed the stimilation of what the fest had to offer... but by day, I was nestled away under a tree of my own meditation to work for 3 days on this piece entitled "special delivery." Interview as follows:
  • What were some of your favorite moments you had while live painting at Lightning In a Bottle 2013? ----"The gratitude i received from my soul's expression. A small boy asked for me to sign his hat.. it felt like planting a seed somewhere... and a seed in me of curiosity to see what it would grow into. Being able to have my moments in the spotlight, and also unifying with those around who shared the same appreciation for the uniquely creative.  Sitting under a family of trees, eyes closed, with pockets of sunlight brushing on my face as huge gongs synchronistically vibrated around and in my bones under a brief forever meditation. And also, I cannot forget -- acid bingo. Enough said. haha"
  • Did you feel like your work was reflective of the atmosphere? -- "My work embodied the energy of the atmosphere.  The elements of my piece were predetermined, but there were a handful of improved, improvised in the moment additions.  The clouds during the event inspired me with particular colors, the expansive sun, along with the cool nights were implemented.  And how people were sleeping under trees as people playfully passed by... all reflective in my piece. I truly enjoyed being in that moment."
  • How does the work created while painting live stand against the work you traditionally create in studio ----  "I definitely felt a certain distinctive peace while creating out in the air and natural setting. The people came in and out like clouds passing, smiling, then drowned out back into peace.  Even under time constraint, I was able to be in the moment and lost in the work. Not to mention, me and my partner's performing art of body paint and organic display of dancing to the art.  We really got lost in the moment and didn't realize or care about the observation from perfect strangers.  If anything, it made me observe myself and the relationship of interconnectivity and exclusion with her and I.  Observation is an art as well...  and this live session perhaps created a new tradition for me to practice."

  • What other Lightning In a Paintcan artists inspired you?  --- "I've been a fan of John Park's work for some time now.  Sadly didn't muster the courage to connect with him.  But sent him good vibes in my own way.  DeLa, Gianni Arone, Hans Walor, Telopa, Rachel Mandala, were all forces that gave me a shiver of awe and intimidation, but I quickly snapped myself back to being the best me that I can be and an awareness that we're all here for growth, and showing what we can bring.  My partner gave a blessing of that wish... and reminded me that the only one I need to compete with is myself.   :)"
Horoscope from that day:

Every 3 months in LA and now in other U.S. cities comes this unique cultural event. This is where you can you find vintage vinyl records from all genre's, live musicians, live art, and street dance battles.  I have the privilege to know and work with the coordinator Robbie Utmos, a hard working passionate good buddy of mine.  This event gives super support and love and have sold originals to the awesome cultured people of L.A.  Looking forward to more events in this sophisticated saturated city.
